Uh oh; someone who actually knows about construction costs & did the math! I was really wondering about that $300 million cost, as well as the size. Both sound pretty excessive.

1870, NYC, New York Co. Courthouse, Boss Tweed. Tweed to contractor: "How much does that chair cost?" C: "$25." T: "No, you mean $50; $25 for you, $25 for me." They finally figured this out in 1873, & sent Tweed to jail. #TrumpCrimeFamily doing the same damn thing in 2025, and #Republicans are mum.

#ICE has been allocated $170billion over 4 years. Do you honestly believe that? Most of that money will end up in other people's pockets-donors, contractors, politicians, and even Trump himself. The country is being robbed in plain sight

Trump was pissed off about the No Kings demonstrations on Saturday the 18th. I believe he decided to destroy the White House, the People's House, as a form of punishment for people daring to March against him. Trump hates America.

My theory is he wanted to demolish what the first ladies built and he's angry his own wife hates him so much she won't live w him. He's gonna turn around and cancel (he'll say because we cried) and then he'll do something stupid and golf related.

With luxury apartments and world class kitchens for dumpty and Co to live in luxury thru a nuclear war. And servants accommodations resembling a concentration camp somewhere unseen, probably exposed. Who knows what goes on in the warped brain of his! Oh and a vault to hoard his wealth.

So... this ballroom is something that exists within his deranged mind. The destruction is real though. To me, a Canadian, this looks like an abhorrent act of vandalism. I don't understand why it's not being stopped, or even challenged. I'm an Atheist, but if I was religious, I would pray for you.

Pretty clear to me that what we’ve seen so far is AI slop. I doubt even a single legitimate architectural drawing has been done. As for the projected cost, it’s also pretty clear to me that this entire project was devised to grift the donors out of millions of dollars.

That price is likely realistic when you consider the requirements to make it bullet and bomb proof, protected from eavesdropping potentially classified discussions, sound proof glass, remodeling the bunker that was under the East Wing, etc. And don’t forget the gold and elaborate lights etc.

Architects Unite! Speak out about the "WH addition". Tell people the TRUTH. STOP that stupid project and any other ones that they are plotting to begin. Write your Congressmen/Senators!

I am also a licensed architect and I’m wondering about the demo process. A building that’s over 100 years old almost certainly has asbestos containing materials (ACMs) that must be properly remediated and safely disposed of, by law. Everything happened so fast, I can’t believe it was done legally

The 'formerly current (or currently former?)' East Wing was built in the 1940s under Eisenhower. While I am an art historian, I would still totally defer to architects/architectural historians/preservationists on the asbestos question. I'm just responding to the 'over 100 years old' part.

Asbestos was very commonly used as a building material in the 1940s for many purposes, including insulation, mastic, floor tile, and pipe insulation to name a few. Any building built in the 1940s would almost certainly contain ACMs that cannot just be dumped into and landfill on a golf course
