By refusing to even consider a customs union, Keir Starmer himself is the biggest block to closer ties with Europe. Unless he changes that stance, this is all just meaningless blather

Explain why Europe would accept us in a customs union when so many other parties would take us straight back out again. I agree we need it but I don’t think Europe wants to do meaningless work for nothing.

Starmer saying we would never go back into a customs union whilst he is leader is looking more like a great option if Labour can bin Starmer. Stupid thing to say. Labour allowed themselves to be pushed into a corner by the Tories on tax and the EU.

A bespoke agreement is theoretically possible to reduce trade barriers, but it would require the UK to adopt EU trade policies and likely align with regulations, limiting its ability to strike independent trade deals. It’s time for you to retire.

Because he doesn't believe in anything. He wants to be in charge, solely to be in charge. He hasn't actually got a reason to BE in charge or a legacy to deliver. So he wants to do as little as possible and cling on as long as possible. That's Starmerism. It's just crap. Such a disappointment!

Their Priorities Growth In 2025.. 1.3% Get Britain Building London house approvals backlog and record lows Overall approvals record lows Health To say it hasn't improved is a massive understatement Defence Spending FELL, have you seen the world we are in?! They failed universally.

Why have Lib Dems backed down from its stronger position of supporting Single Market participation? A customs union removes tariffs on some additional goods. That's it. Regulatory inspections, safety and security checks, VAT, import/export declarations don't suddenly disappear.

Shame you think an economy 4% plus below our counterparts - even counting in all the other shocks - is good enough. The only way to increase GDP is sustainably and only the EU provides a big enoug market for successful just transition to make it worthwhile for investors. That's CU immediately.

Ed wanting starmer to break manifesto pledges. Just because you did it with students doesn't make it ok you absolute whopper. I now put you amongst reform and tory mps. I.e shit tier

Starmer is perhaps unwittingly driving the economy into deeper recession with his anti-business policies and Brexit redlines. Quite simply growth won't happen without EU SM+CU. The only winner from this recession is Farage who'll ruthlessly exploit the despair on his march to no. 10.

Everyone seems to be under the delusion that rejoining the EU is a UK political decision. That is a prerequisite, but it takes two to tango and it’s not clear to me that it is in the EU’s best interests to forge closer ties with a country which has never shown enthusiasm for the European project.
