To rely on AI is to subject oneself to a lifelong humiliation ritual. You must be willing to become a dogshit merchant that accepts, sells and defends dogshit.

The report made numerous false claims about the use of AI by organisations including UBS, claiming the Swiss bank 'integrates AI agents across investment advisory, risk management and compliance monitoring'. ft.trib.al/clkVSb6

“Actually AI is really good, other than when it’s not, when it’s total dogshit that breaks for no real reason other than the maths went that way.“ insert mythology here about how it’s getting cheaper or “hallucinations are a solved problem.” Such is the life of an AI enthusiast - to be a pig in slop

I hate the use of "hallucination" in regard to LLM's as it implies a kind of intelligence. Hallucinations are generally caused by the brain's reaction to sensory experience that isn't real. LLM's don't have brains, they are just cut and splice tools that either work or don't.

since it's all statistical i'd say it would be more accurate to call any correct statement that comes out of it "getting lucky". i will never not assume the slop machine to by lying because there is no actual logic that i could be shown to persuade me otherwise..

I had a professor back in 2018 who specialised in metamorphic testing, I remember him saying that AI (at the time machine learning) should never be used in a mission critical environment. No idea how he feels about llms

Work: "you have to use AI" Fine. Tell AI to update a list of things. It gets one wrong. Work: "look how amazing it is, it got almost all of them right!" Me: "but now I have to check them all again myself, why don't I just do it by hand?" Work: "YOU ARE CREATING A CULTURE OF NEGATIVITY ABOUT AI"

I was looking for studies on how chatbots do at investing. There's a lot written about it (blablablabla) but not much to show if they consistently beat the markets, or the monkeys. Does anyone know of good studies?

One of the directors in my organization used AI to summarize his emails and organize his calendar. He does not check it at all. Complete evangelist telling us to embrace it or get left behind. I wonder regularly just how many actually important meetings or emails it has just wiped... ⏲️

I'm guessing none...because other people have to continually rearrange meeting that he's declined to make sure he can attend, but he doesn't recognise that effort.

Except he is middle management with 3 layers of female executives above him. I am guessing that an AI trained on a lot of male centric businesses is going to have some bias about the importance of various names in email addresses.
