seems conspicuous that programmer commentary on genAI is split between "oh yeah i use claude all the time now. the 10× programmer is real and he's me. i am a god" and "yeah my coworkers use claude all the time. they keep committing crap that doesn't work and now i spend half my time fixing it"

can't wait for the stories about the latter folks getting laid off first because they're not as Productive™

also conspicuous that artists and writers almost universally revile this junk, but there's a subset of programmers going "thank god, i don't have to write code any more" no one was making you do this?? start a food truck idk

What I don't get is, basically all programmers used to hate reading and verifying and testing code even more. And now they do basically only that.

lol i was thinking about that a couple days ago. code review is already just a hard thing to do well because no one will know it as well as whoever wrote it. now the pitch is: what if no one wrote it and it's all code review?

just another example of how genAI/LLMs seem mainly focused on taking all the fun/creative tasks away so we have more time to focus on doing tedious work nobody wants to do

And put the blame on you. For stuff you didn't do. Oh you didn't work perfectly and missed an error the ai made? You're at fault.

Absolutely. Or if its some internal new dev, they'd get pulled over to have a stern chat. Plus, none of the top devs would be commenting like that on the issues anyways as they'd work on way different tasks. I fear for those codebases. And those people.

I do enjoy the laughing emoji though ngl. An older post of mine bsky.app/profile/dave...

this is just pure sadness.. some of the smartest people at microsoft now talking like they're nannying a toddler to make it's code 'work'. don't they see how sad and pathethic this all looks?
