a different pitch - the story is really remarkable. It contains: - A story about the quest for immortality and revenge - One of the cruelest dialog boxes I've ever seen - A lovable human boy who you can give toys and games to in order to teach him about the world

Nine Sols is one of the best Metroidvania you could possibly play, developed by Red Candle who made one of my favourite horror games ever, Detention. Here, we have a Sekiro inspired combat system with some of the most exhilarating boss battles in any game I've ever played. Absolutely phenomenal.

A friend of mine gave me a "yeah yeah sekiro like" response when I recommended this game but they hadn't heard the story pieces Red Candle doesn't miss with characters and emotional beats. Even though this is an action game, it is no different and if you don't like Sekiro, there's a Story Mode

Devotion is probably the most emotionally devastating game I've ever played and I mean that in the best way possible.

My problem with Nine Sols isn't that I dislike Sekiro—I enjoyed Sekiro once I got into the groove. I don't really like Metroid and Castlevania. The 2d platforming part is what puts me off. :x

...eh, $15, I can pick it up for when I hit the rare metroidvania mood next. I did eventually play Bloodstained, uh...*checks*...five years ago. >.>

Also a: - a roster of bosses that all have their own personal stories, personalities, and ties to the main character - a main character with an equally rich story, personality, and haunting past - a lot more horror than you'd think. It gets DARK as you go through the story.

So, heavy spoilers ahead obviously. From Lady Ethereal: "The Eternal Cauldron Project... The Vital Sanctums... They're all just a bunch of fancy caskets!" With the background characters all saying "it's all your fault" Revealing that all the cruelty enacted was ultimately pointless ruined me.

Every Soulslike tries “ok what if we do bell gargoyle/maneater with a mid fight boss change” but Lady Ethereal pulls it off imo with gameplay AND atmosphere

Before Silksong came out I used to joke that "we already got Silksong and it's called Nine Sols", but after that there is no more joke. If you like this genre, or this studio, you should play Nine Sols.
