Apparently, some Houston voters are putting their I Voted stickers on the Lorenzo Salgado Araujo memorial. Stephen Miller is ALREADY trying to scapegoat others for losing whatever races they lose in Texas and elsewhere. This is a vivid testament that for some voters, his murder squad is the reason.

This is where "it's just trans sports bans" leads you, Democrats supporting overtly genocidal policies that would kill tens of thousands of trans people. But at least we'll be marched into the camps by someone in blue, right?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I’m not going to link to the site because lol no, but hey I spent a fucking weekend doing unpaid security work because this chud decided to bring a Nazi protest to Worldcon years ago, walking past fuckers chanting blood and soil and threatening me and my friends so what the hell do I know.

Shjade reposted

Hey, so, it actually took a lot of people doing a lot of unpaid work for Jon Del Arroz to be properly marginalized from the SFF community, and now he’s back, and in one of the more widely read genre fan columns around. So I just have one question: @file770.bsky.social, what the actual hell?

Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Given the shift in media ownership over the Trump era, Democrats REALLY need to learn to ignore media handwringing now. Because I have no doubt their every move for accountability will be attacked from every possible angle.

On Monday, I had to go through and sort all the slop that was flooding my inbox, declining all the obviously AI garbage so I could see real games people were trying to send me. I thought I was finished when I suddenly had a further 16 games in my inbox, all AI generated, all from the same developer.

Shjade reposted

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

I think we *have* to figure this out - whether the role of human authority is at all constitutive of what law *is.* because many of the folks peddling AI are very much engaging in a political project that anticipates dismantling liberal constitutional democracy.

Shjade reposted

If a legal system likewise requires human beings assuming legitimate authority as they make judgments that bind other human beings, then the entire conversation about AI and the law is completely off the rails.

Shjade reposted

one of the (many) things that frustrates me about discussions about AI and legal practice is that everyone seems to assume that law consists entirely of a particular kind of reasoning, and the only way to critique the practice of law (and ergo AI's role in it) is whether the reasoning is "right."

This is the thing a lot of people don’t understand about the term “elites” as used by the Right. It *always* just means “you think you’re better than me?!”. That’s why they can conceptualize Presidents as Guys You Can Have A Beer With and Starbucks workers as “elites”. They despise our attempts to..

Mallory Moore@sexabolition.blog

Jo Rowling's accusation of elitism is a bit like the way some people who are pieces of shit like to say "you think you are better than me" indignantly to justify being pieces of shit. I don't think we should read much more than that We are better than her personally. We're not elite, the bar is low

…be good people (that contempt drips from everything they say), and resent our belief that the world could and should be better than it is. They resent that. They perceive an implicit snooty judgement in us, and cannot believe we’re sincere. Thus “elites” and “virtue signalling”.

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

Right the fuck on, Moxon. If human rights for small groups or even for one person are "boutique issues," then human rights are simply dead. The **entire point** of human rights is that we don't dole them out conditionally to one small group or another as we find it in the budget of our hearts.

A.R. Moxon@juliusgoat.bsky.social

I’d say we will continue to have such boutique issues until we stop seeing human rights as a boutique issue—until the rest of us agree to stand in solidarity with all humans, instead of trying the morally and practically failed strategy of seeking the approval of those who would exclude some.
