I remember ppl having sth like this on their personal web pages in the early 2000s. Info transmitted seems similar to back then. Can't remember battery life, but we were on desktops then 🤭 "You just switched to another tab — or another app — and came back 124.1 seconds later." ...for this message

Can't believe this audience of mainly quantitative psychologists missed the opportunity to post how many DATA POINTS® their browsers sent! (I had 27) Also, some of the info was not correct

None of what it said was surprising or troubling. One thing it said was wrong, and is probably an average of people who use the type of device that I use. Why are we having this conversation?

Yeah, my location is in the wrong country (it thought I was in Brussels, but I’m in Rotterdam! Fancy a visit, @eikofried.bsky.social ?) I’m amused by the ominous tones with which it suggests that it’s sinister for a website to need to know your screen dimensions or what fonts you have available.

I get that all this stuff CAN be used to fingerprint you, but a lot of it is just required for a sensible web experience. If site had no access to browser size, there could be no automatic desktop versus phone versions of sites.
