Today we will for the first time grade master students in our Metascience course based on an oral exam. The completed weekly assignments, and we will quiz them on what they learned. It's our way to AI proof the course. Curious about how it will work out!

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

So excited to share that I will be starting my research group at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology! 🥳 My lab will study curiosity and exploration across biological (and artificial) minds. I will recruit a PhD, a postdoc and an RA in the coming months, so please spread the word!

the most important difference being, of course, that you're not actually asking people but prompting the internet. which might be useful too, but it's a very different thing

If you’ve seen me trying not to reveal what I’ve been working on the last few months, well, here it is 🎉 Our first big offering - aside from Atmosphere account hosting - is personal websites for researchers! Drop your must-haves, preferences, ideas, or questions about personal/prof sites below 🧪🧬💻

Aster ID@aster.id

The modern research ecosystem of online tools and communities is controlled by for-profit companies. But we think that researchers should be the priority - not the product. So, we're announcing Aster ID: not-for-profit Atmosphere account hosting for researchers.

Kumpikin on melkoinen game changer

I agree with many of the points here. But the scare quotes are unnecessary: Not all #agency is human agency, and simple forms of agency are not that hard to build: systems that have goals and pursue them using perception and internal information (Dennett, Tomasello etc). If it walks like a duck ...
