I think you need a control for dot gain too. It'll be endless frustration if you try to correct using gamma alone.

By dot gain, what do you mean? Not the pitch but a scaling factor applied? Gamma was broken, BTW—I just fixed it. (Python and Javascript handle gamma differently so there was something lost in translation.)

When the dots are physically applied, they will spread a bit depending on the ink, temperature, pressure, etc. You make the dots slightly smaller to compensate for that.
