I’ve been thinking a lot about chess and other strategy games lately, and how they relate to fighting games, philosophically. Both are games of endurance in decisionmaking.

In chess there is a tendency to conflate success with intelligence and in fighting games the same is said about reaction speed, I think both are untrue in similar ways. Both are games of study, of presenting options to your opponent that are bad for them, waiting for them to take one.
