Ohio has basically defacto banned trans healthcare for adults using a similar strategy to why there was only a handful of abortion clinics in the entire Midwest before the Dobbs decision (TRAP laws) cis people please repost this so this info doesn't get stuck in the queer social bubble

Breaking: Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) bans, by executive order, gender-affirming surgery for minors, effective immediately. The move followed last week's veto of a broader bill. He also announced two proposed rules that will apply to all care, including adults. substack.com/profile/2269...

Important: The restrictions on non-surgical care are only proposed at this point. Which isn't to say they're not awful, but people currently receiving gender-affirming treatment shouldn't discontinue today!

The TRAP rules DeWine announced today still have to go through an administrative process to be enacted, so there is not *yet* a de facto ban on gender affirming care in Ohio.

It's an important distinction to make because so much of this shit *has* taken effect instantly, e.g. Roe trigger laws that closed clinics within hours of Dobbs. "You have an unknown amount of time to plan for Ohio banning care" requires a different response from "care was banned in Ohio *today*"

surgery on trans people under 18 is incredibly rare and subject to an extensive review process which was in place before any of these laws almost everything you read about it now is alarmist to stir up fear and hatred of trans people

My grand daughter would be negatively affected by these idiots and their ginned up outrage. Blanket political proclamations over biological matters have always worked out well, with no unintended consequences, right?

donate to the legal groups that are going to fight this contact your state rep/senator (state, not Congress) if they are on the Ohio JCARR committee and urge them to defeat this protest smuggle HRT into your community if all else fails and trans people can network meds like we did before the 1990s

Ohio is such a shit show. I thought hb 68 was shot down? Then the last voting for abortion rights won but now their also trying to change it, and before that the “special election” they had to change the constitution illegally to get abortions banned

i am going to be this guy. as a trans man/trans masc adult in Ohio (currently receiving gender affirming care) i have been following this CLOSELY. the Ohio Department of Health got DeWine to back down on this decision for adults earlier this month (Feb 2024)

pbs.orgOhio backs off proposed restrictions on gender-affirming medical care for adultsTransgender people and their healthcare providers feared the original rules would have left thousands of patients scrambling to find care — and facing health risks in the meantime.

no, it is an attempt to close clinics that provide HRT that can't meet new stringent requirements it also mandates a lengthy & expensive & unnecessary therapy process before care can be provided, even adults also it creates a requirement to report all people receiving trans healthcare to the state

they are theocrats and authoritarians even the moderate ones or ones that pretend to be reasonable, they are just lying (DeWine is the case in point for that)
