I'd say, it's more like deposing their governments for one that'll sell oil to us on the cheap. If it's a democracy that doesn't like us, we'll overthrow it and install a dictatorship, so long as we can profit from them. Heck, Saudi Arabia is a absolute monarchy, and we get along with them fine.

The US has never wanted any country to be democratic and has intervened to stop democracies forming more often than it has supported them.
