By the way, if someone is serving for the United States military, it is a bit old fashioned to say "thank you for your service", perhaps try instead: "you are a traitor to the human race."

Love all the people saying “um actually they are victims of poverty and brainwashing!" who would never, in a million years, be half as charitable to ICE agents. I wish crippling PTSD on every single American soldier for the rest of their lives.

Most of them are taken as impressionable young teens, told the government will cover housing, food, higher education, healthcare... then brainwashed into unquestionable obedience and utter dehumanization of anyone the government calls "the enemy". They're victims turned into perpetrators.

I am so goddamn sick of this "brainwashed innocents" cliche. Everybody in my high school who signed up knew exactly what they were signing up for. Some of us wanted it, some of us were simply willing to look the other way, but we all knew. bsky.app/profile/frie...

I was in JROTC when 9/11 happened. The number of my classmates who were *eager* to kill someone when they graduated and went into the service...well, it wasn't zero.

The military absolutely has predatory recruiting practices and functions as a cult, but we still don't need to be thanking them for murdering people. If we broke the status quo of thanking these murders and took away some the social capital their "service" provides, that could go a long way.

On one level, I fully agree. On the other, we need the military to recognize the level of predatory exploitation that's been inflicted on them by wealthy elites. We need them on the side of the people. We need them to measure up to the heroism and courage we praise them for.
