Does anyone else hate the Speed of Light? It's so lame. We can never zip around and visit a million planets just because of some stupid hardcoded limit that they arbitrarily put in because the devs refuse to optimize their engine to handle faster travel.

Amazingly, special relativity makes it easier, not harder, to visit distant stars in your lifetime: in Newtonian physics you can't accelerate much more than 1g ≈ 10m/s² or you'd be crushed, and at that rate you can go ~36 parsecs (115ly) in 15 years (even less if you need to decelerate and stop). …

… There are major caveats to this, however: one is that this is 15 years of your PROPER time, because obviously to get 2.6 million lightyears away takes about 2.6 million years as measured by stationary observers, do you can't go home. The second is that you need a GINORMOUS amount of energy.

THAT's why we're never going to visit the Andromeda Galaxy? I think we have a few more hurdles to jump through. Don't forget, God also invented unbridled capitalism, focused on maximizing profits and shareholder value at any cost... or so the Bible says, according to certain pundits.

Absolutely not. The speed of light is just a reminder--take time to smell the gulfs. Enjoy photons coming from supernovae that popped before anything was alive. The blackness between here and there is different from that between there and yonder.

Nah, it was just isolated so the simulation doesn't divide by zero since dev could never fix that bug, but you can still move faster-than-light just fine, it's just the exact speed of light that's off limits.

The speed of light is great because it protect us from aliens or protects the aliens from our species. Aliens do visit us but when they take a look around they scram.

Have you seen the licencing fees for Luminiferous Ether? Bodging in Relativity at the last minute was the only option they had. While I can't fault them for that I do wish they would finish debugging the interface with Quantum Mechanics as is causing ongoing confusion.

Noo, it's the speed of time that is annoying. You cán visit a million planets in your life. Unfortunately earth has passed millions or billions of years in that case

Also... Gravity bends light. So... When light travels directly at a strong source of high-gravity, doesn't it get bent to "faster than Light" so like... THAT'S the "real" limit, right? But then... What is that because... Just keep adding gravity and then it's infinite speed of light? 🤔

Just quantum tunnel there? It's instantaneous through solid objects... Should be even faster through empty space, right? 🤔 As a snail, that's how I get places quickly. 🐌 ....I can totally do it... I just don't feel like it, right now. 🃏

"I mean... why not just make the speed of light AND light itself faster, and make that the new speed of light?" *chews gum* "But these go up to eleven"
