I knew nothing about this case until a few days ago and have no ax to grind on either side. But after review of what's known of the facts, it seems to me that:- 1) He probably did fall short of the expected standard. 2) If he'd been white we'd never have heard about it he'd still be alive today.

Not everyone clicks through (especially the substack purists who need to) and that clip is an absolute rebuttal to the claim they aren’t deliberate strategists of evil as well as bad faith, I wanted to highlight it

1. I feel like all of this occurred in the first place due to racism. POC have been saying forever that it's not enough for them to be "equally as good as" their white peers, they have to be exceptional to get the position and be seen as "good enough".

2. Cambridge University was accused of being institutionally racist so in order to sweep that pesky problem under the rug they chose to hire someone exceptional without doing proper checks. Because how could you accuse them of racism when they seemingly have what they see as the diversity jackpot?

3. Of course this Youngest Black Male Professor will draw an incredible amount of scrutiny from the right. And when they do uncover any form of irregularity they hound him to the ends of the earth in yet another display of racism.

4. Now that this poor man is dead they are gloating over their gotcha moment, reveling in the exact racism that likely lead him to be (potentially) dishonest about his achievements in the first place.
