A big part of these proposals is to make employers take out insurance to cover employee sickness costs, removing that obligation from state. I’m sure the fact Arron Banks runs an insurance company is just a coincidence.

There are different kinds of violence. Two years ago, it was thugs out on the streets trying to burn down hostels and mosques. This summer, it was character assassins in suits and summer frocks on social media and in editorial meetings

Let's face it: this wasn't even the biggest scandal *at Cambridge University*. Yet the much bigger story, exposed by Byline Times, has scarcely been picked up anywhere. Of course, that involved white, radical-rightwing professors, so nothing to see here. bsky.app/profile/geor...

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

The Jason Arday story is by no means the biggest scandal at Cambridge University. I'm sure the media is going to pick this up and run with it in just the same way ... Or is the exaggerated CV of one Black professor somehow more important than this?

Cassandra Nilsson reposted

The treatment of Jason Arday was massively out of proportion to his faults. People who have committed terrible crimes have received less scrutiny, yet I don't believe anything he did or said even crossed the threshold of criminality. How many of us would have survived what he was put through? 🧵

Look, put simply, people should not be comfortable saying that in public and the way to fix society runs directly through making them afraid to say it again.

This is the end goal of every right wing "news" story, every smear campaign. Replace people of colour, replace women, replace LGBTQ+ people with fascists so that only cis, white, male bigots are in positions of power. They don't care about the "issues", they just want those people gone.

The Daily Mail's best paid columnist is Boris Johnson. A man more deserving of scrutiny across the last two decades than practically anyone else in public life.

Gerry Hassan@gerryhassan.bsky.social

The right-wing media hounding of Jason Arday: 188 articles in the space of a few days. 158 articles in The Daily Mail, Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Express & Spectator. Maybe like cigarettes the r/w media should carry a health warning: these papers can kill.

Nearly every past atrocity was legal, nearly every liberatory movement to end it was not. Resistance is criminalized because oppressors write laws that protect their cruelty and make our objection to it illegal.

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030. That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.

Just because the Golders Green attacker also stabbed a Muslim man doesn't mean his attacks on 2 Jewish men weren't antisemitic. Both the press leaving out the 1st stabbing *and* the press fixating on it have agendas. Please b careful what views u form based on reporting b4 all the facts are known.

The horror at what is being done to Palestinians comes from the same place as the horror at what is being done, yet again, to Jews. Does the government really want us to stop standing in solidarity with the victims of atrocities? If so, it will make the country less safe for everyone.

Keir Starmer's intention to restrict peaceful protest even further is punishment for crimes the great majority of protestors hate and reject. By suggesting that support for Palestinians is an attack on British Jews, he conflates British Jews with the state of Israel, which is wrong and dangerous.

All of us have a duty to fight antisemitism wherever we see it, and confront anyone expressing antisemitic sentiments. If people in any movement express such sentiments, they should immediately be expelled, as many have already been. No excuses, no hesitation.

Jews are not collectively responsible for Israeli government policy. People demonstrating peacefully for Palestine are not collectively responsible for the attacks on British Jews. Collective punishment for other people's crimes is not justice.

Cassandra Nilsson reposted

We must stand in solidarity with Jews being attacked by antisemitic criminals and terrorists: no ifs or buts. We must stand in solidarity with Palestinians being murdered by the Israeli government: no ifs or buts. These are not contradictory positions. They are consistent ones. 🧵1/5

Extremist is the death and destruction that Benjamin Netanyahu government brings on a daily basis. Extremist is them introducing the death penalty for Palestinians. Extremist is this apartheid, genocidal Israeli Government that our Government shamefully supports.

I watched the video of the attack in Golders Green. I saw unacceptable violence from someone obviously sick. The officers tasered him at a distance, which would make his whole body clenched. Police kicked him, whilst tasered shouting to drop the knife when he would be unable to. Neither is ok.

This one's easy. Stabbing wrong. Being Jewish isn't the same as being the Israeli government. Don't stab people. Whatever creed or colour the stabber, his actions do not reflect the actions of others. No one else is responsible for this person's actions. No fingers should be pointed. Except at him.
