If Miliband's comparatively mild, caveated, and strictly targeted criticism of Israeli settler actions are enough to endanger the UK Jewish community & unleash pogroms then: a) We've passed some point of no return. b) Successive UK governments have utterly failed in addressing antisemitism.

I think the argument Rabbi Mirvis (not me!) is making is that by calling out Israel and the Settler Movement, Miliband was somehow legitimizing attacks on Jews as avatars of Israel in the UK.

I think that is a false assumption. By officially registering opposition to the Israeli Settler actions, it should help reduce frustration in those strongly opposed to Netanyahu's evil regime. This may actually head off more extreme individual actions.

I'm saying that his lack of condemnation, whilst simultaneously criticising Miliband for his condemnation and action speaks volumes. Israel doesn't represent every Jew, nor is every Jew beholden to the actions of Israel.

I think more fundamentally is has long been a kind of knee jerk dogma that as Israel exists to be THE safe refuge for Jews, any criticism of or restriction on Israel threatens Jewish safety (and aids antisemites because antisemites seek to hurt Jews). It's a potent inhibitor of speech and action.

This is what truly sickens me about this, abusing the concept of anti-Semitism to prop up a frankly terrible government and stating that all Jews = Israel. Allying with right wing 'Christian' nationalists who hate Jews for short term gain. I do not feel this will end well.
