i talk about AI discourse using the phrase “purity culture” cause ultimately a lot of what we’re seeing now is 100% the exact same shit that you see in evangelical christianity “where’s the line?” “what’s acceptable and what’s not?” life just isn’t that simple, you’ve lost the plot, you’re a cop

you especially see this happening with the Hank Green situation… his fanbase is now divided over the minutiae of when is it okay to use AI and when isn’t it and ultimately they’re just creating a bunch of goofy rules and legalism that doesn’t make any sense and helps absolutely no one

I find it interesting that it took so long for his fans to notice. I only occasionally watch his videos to get a feel for what the normies are thinking, and his content was heavy on the GPT / Claudish talk... but I spend a LOT of time talking to models. I guess non-users don't catch it as quickly.

yeah i think some of his fans weren’t thrilled he was talking about AI with a lot of nuance, but from what i saw in the comments it seemed like they were fine with it so long as he wasn’t “pro AI” as in using AI himself, especially in his content?

this all just comes down to campism. those who've found an identity in being anti-AI have also found comradery in it, unfortunately, and that doesn't create community it simply creates a camp, which you can then claim is better than some other group (even if it's made up!)
