I'm trying to figure out what the imagined non-evil utility of this is supposed to be. Why would people want the ability to add random shit to Google Earth images? Is this just a case of "we need to figure out how to shoehorn generative AI into every product?"

Just posted about this. The use cases are here blog.google/products-and... bsky.app/profile/wend...

Yes any tech can be abused. Not sure of the utility in seeing a historical place turned into “a futuristic sci-fi utopia” by #AI Other use cases Google is suggesting for education and actual real estate projects are pretty cool. Full disclosure I’m a techie and have Google Earth as my watch face 🌎

I have worked professionally with satellite and drone imagery for a long time. These use cases are fucking worthless.

I think there’s also very little market utility here either. The only people who will find this useful are amoral scammers and propagandists.

You’re not going to be learning history from pure fabrication, and I sure wouldn’t trust it for backyard home improvement projects, either.
