As someone who grew up online, it does depress me to see how many people genuinely can’t fathom why someone would want to be on social media beyond reasons linked to building clout so you can make money. It’s fun to talk to interesting people from around the world. That’s always been my reason.

Why wouldn't you want to be on social media, where you can get publicly ostracized to the detriment of your offline life for mildly disagreeing with someone who has said clout?
