If you hit a dog, it's animal abuse. If you hit your spouse, it's spousal abuse. If you hit an old person, it's elder abuse. If you hit your child, it's just called parenting. That needs to end Children are not property and have the right not to be beaten.

My mum told me that if you use violence to impose your will on your child all you are doing is teaching them that violence is the answer, and if I couldn't teach my children right from wrong without hitting them then I need to check my parenting skills.

Fear. Violence is fear. Why some Countries consider indoctrinating kids into religion is child abuse and illegal. Telling a child they will burn in hell if they do not conform, is fear based & illogical. It's laziness. Education, community service, reason, takes more time & effort.
