I think MS has over-estimated their users’ affiliation with the brand and ecosystem. A problem with Game Pass is that subscribers never “own” anything, making a divorce from that subscription incredibly painless, with no real investment to keep it going.

I wish I could say something more insightful, but all sides of gaming just seem awful from the people in charge. I'm scared for all the studios working under Xbox. But we see even with Sony, you can try your best and just get canned for nothing. And the guy in charge now will fall for "AI" scams ffs

I threw up in my mouth to read that “urgency” is what the new head of gaming feels. That is just a fancy translation of: we must respond more quickly to the demands of shareholders, regardless of long-term cost. Maybe a bit more patience to go with their humility would be appropriate.

I can't fault the business side for running low on patience half a decade out from some huge and expensive acquisitions. They spent how much on Zenimax and Activision/Blizzard? And what do they have to show for it and what's coming down the pipeline.

Yes, they do, but any accounting method whereby the purchaser believes they can make back $68 billion in 4 years is a faulty one. The ActiBlizz purchase occurred for a host of reasons, but I don't think they thought the fruits of it would be best observed in less than a decade.
