Seriously guys ? One must upload an Govt. ID every time I want to comment, post, reply ? A pain to begin with. Uploading an ID to social media and similar is a no go in this day and age, any Govt. agency strongly advices against that, especially when online ID theft is at an all time high.

Hi there -- it's just once -- via the Canada Post Identity + app. They delete personal info. following the verification. We've been working with them closely to make sure data collection is minimal on both sides of the equation. The goal is to keep bots off.

We don't get any of the personal data just two signals: that you are 18+, and a human being. We're working on adding more options as well. Canada Post first because they are Canadian, data is stored here (for the short period that it is stored), and you can verify in a post office.

We also verify via trusted institutions (think: CIRA, unis, unions) and are always expanded the list. Hoping to add Interac as well. Also open to feedback or any other (sovereign) options people are aware of.

It's a starting spot for sure. And it's something we are working to improve. It's also working as far as we can tell -- there have a been a few instances where thousands of accounts are created in a few minutes (from outside of Canada) with no increased bot activity in moderation.

1) Disappointed that this report is not an accessible/tagged PDF or otherwise offered as an HTML webpage. Also accessibility was mentioned as a future goal but no report on current accessibility achievements. At minimum, you should be able to speak to QA testing for keyboard/assistive tech...

2) "Designed data-limiting identity verification using Canada Post’s on-device verification system and institutional email options" Can you elaborate what the Canada Post verification does? What is considered an institutional email address?

We are getting an accessible/tagged PDF together. Will make sure any reporting we publish moving forward is accessible. Thanks for the push on it. Accessibility is one of the big consideration behind web. It's definitely going to be an ongoing process though.

People can verify through Canada Post Identity+ either via their device or in person at a post office. If it's on device the digital ID is encrypted and stored on said device. Canada Post deletes any info in around two hours. Post office just means someone checks your ID.

good call making it the default going forward instead of a one-off fix. tagged pdf is the part most tools get wrong retroactively, way easier to get reading order and headings right at generation time than to retrofit tags onto a doc that's already flattened.

K folks, I have tried no less than 3 separate times over a number of months and STILL can’t log in? This last time I got a gandle…but still can’t get in. The only reason I’ve tried 3x is because you’re Cdn.
