see some fancy american chef types online hype it up sometimes and it's obvious they've only had it in nice restaurants. *bad* sticky toffee pudding is punishing.

Yeah. Over here, sticky toffee pudding is like tiramisu or creme brulee: you usually only think of it in the context of fancy restaurants or in hopelessly ambitious home chefs.

I think that's been my experience - first time I had it was at a very nice place, and I've never found any close to it since.
