I share your aversion to xenophobia, fascism and Musk, but how does your analysis fit with capitalists' traditional interest in increasing the supply of labour, as to suppress wages? This is reserve army of labour-basics, as recently described in www.texasmonthly.com/news-politic...

texasmonthly.comWhy Texas Secretly Loves Illegal ImmigrationTexas politicians have no interest in actually solving the border crisis, which would require devastating the state's economy.

This is a great point and I remember reading in (I think?) Harsha Walia’s book that harsh border policies are meant to be ineffective. You step up the rhetoric and impose a few headline grabbing policies while continuing to allow desperate workers to trickle into the country at the right rate.

Then next election another right winger can win again saying the border policies aren’t effective enough. It creates the perfect conditions for exploitation because you have a m mass of workers terrified of deportation who then don’t make any trouble for bosses.

Exactly like the previous Tory government - we and tried tried but "lefty lawyers" etc. Same with Bxit - it would have been perfect but "remainer plotters."
