Baylor Anthropology is recruiting graduate students for fall 2027 entry. We have generous stipends, extraordinary lab facilities, a beautiful campus and a lot of exciting research opportunities. Over the next two weeks we will be sharing details of our world class faculty and their specialisms.

We have a critical, national security issue, and politicians are taking about welfare cuts, "fiscal rules," and small boats.

New report from scientists at Imperial College on excess deaths from the scorching European heat waves of 2026: "We estimate 50,391 heat-related excess deaths across the 854 cities during the summer, with around two thirds of these attributable to anthropogenic climate change."

I've not watched TV, let alone Sky News, since staying at my folks house 17 years ago. Bad enough what I see on New stalls and clips on other media. Political lies, manipulative persuasion techniques, going unchallenged or merely, "balanced," with crazy ideas like, Facts, and educated opinion.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

Jonathan Portes in July: "Theres a lot of nonsense talked, including on Sky, about the spiralling welfare bill.. as a proportion of our national income.. its lower than it was 15yrs ago & its pretty much back to what it was under Thatcher.. this idea its out of control is just wrong"

I work in horticulture and in the EU at least- Organic growing has gone from being ridiculed as hippy nonsense to having a target of 25%of all farm land. But perhaps more importantly, some organic methods are now mainstream, like improving Soil Organic Matter, IPM, green matures, etc. Very positive.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

So the decision to throttle starlink for Ukraine WAS made by Elon Musk. The dumpster fire of unelected billionaires making US foreign policy is here and we're just drinking coffee watching it burn. We need NASA back, fuck space force and the fascist horse it rode in on.

Hey everyone, gather around! Elon Musk, the trillionaire defense contractor currently spending >$400m on political campaigns to prop up the party of a deeply unpopular president who launched the Iran War has some thoughts about Ukraine, elites, and money in politics.

I have a hunch that producers of any product, that didn't negotiate a way to directly record how well that product delivered into the marketplace, will feel like they shot themselves in the foot, given the demand for that by kind of training archive

Even knowing how sick the British press is, the lynching of Jason Arday still seemed particularly fanatical. Meanwhile the dark miasma in a skinsuit Gove, purported to be Murdochs favourite, was embroiled in something which got, ZERO, press scrutiny.
