Report to next week’s Planning & Housing Committee includes an analysis of the province’s airport expansion plan, with the caveat that a lot of details are TBD. City is working off basis that runway would be extended westwards. Here’s how that would look. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

Here’s that image modified to include necessary taxiway and other run-off areas next to the runway - the airport footprint would probably be much larger than this to accommodate other needed features to support an expansion, like new hangers, aprons, other taxiways, de-icing, etc.

You don't have the new maritime exclusion zones marked for the runway expansion. By the time those are added, the western gap becomes useless as the usable channel between the runway and Ontario place becomes too small for anything larger than a canoe.

I agree! I am not a designer, was just taking a quick cut at it so did not know how to add the exclusion zones. To me, it looks like either the western gap will be closed or Hanlan’s ferry dock will become very difficult or impossible to reach if this goes ahead.

This is closer to what has to be built for jets. It's an insane thing for them to consider doing. Graphic from Waterfront For All, based on the Transport Canada regulations governing what has to be built for the type of aircraft the airport want to use at Billy Bishop.

You’ll note that Doug Ford's extended runway would come very close to Ontario Place, which, staff say, could really affect your ability to relax in and around Doug Ford’s spa.

A westward runway extension does limit the impact on housing in the port lands, the report says, but could create new conflicts with housing and growth plans in South Etobicoke. Overall, staff estimate about a 14% increase in planned population affected by flight paths with this expansion.
