I just voted. I love how simple the process is. I even found a candidate for school trustee I could support.
My @thestar.com column: Today we get to decide our most direct kind of government. Your vote will decide things like street sweeping frequency, the wait for dead raccoon pick-up, and whether a washroom door is locked when you need it So don’t miss your chance — vote www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Potega didn’t have much of a campaign, but I love how much detail he put in his platform. Refreshing after the inoffensive bland nothings from the other candidates. www.potega.ca/high_park

Watching Toronto's industrial Portlands get turned into a giant public park with the now-not-as-polluted Don River running through the middle of it. I took pictures of giant Oil tanks on Cherry St 25 years ago, now its a greenspace! I never pictured this happening at the time.
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?
Toronto lowered our tight downtown residential streets to 30, and I feel so much safer getting around.
This is why we fight so hard for lower speeds. Kids will be kids, cars are too large and hard to see around, and frankly our streets suck. We hate seeing these stories. But travelling at 20km/h, the child escaped with minor injuries. At 50km/h we'd be writing a completely different post.

This is actually a pretty good series of books from Adrian Tchaikovsky.
*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation For @forbes.com with @iainmartin.bsky.social and @mhunterhart.bsky.social www.forbes.com/sites/amyfel...
His WH stuff is fun, but I love some his non-human-protagonist work the best. adriantchaikovsky.com/dogs-of-war-...

This is the same cycle that consumes charities, but worse for society. A broken charity just wastes money. But a political party carcinized to squeeze $10 donations out of seniors is a threat to good government.
We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.
Good for Kimmel. bsky.app/profile/thes...
Star Exclusive: Jimmy Kimmel has defied the White House, stared down the FCC and stood up for the First Amendment. Now, he has done what not even Martin Scorsese could do — a documentary about Canadian sketch series SCTV.

I am privileged to work alongside 5 remarkable Albertans in our Alberta Senate caucus: Scott Tannas, Patti LaBoucane-Benson, Karen Sorensen, Daryl Fridhandler and Kristopher Wells. Together, we are proud to represent Albertans, and to fight for them and their interests.

This is a big link in the system.
Construction of the Etobicoke Greenway Trail is ongoing and is expected to be complete in 2027. This 4 km multi-use trail is a joint initiative between Hydro One and the City of Toronto, and will extend from Bloor Street West to Longbourne Drive. hydroone.com/etobicoke

I don’t think we have the collective memory to make a national commission worthwhile. These events are rare enough, that we’ll have forgotten everything we learned before the next one hits.
The UK's official covid inquiry just released its *sixth* of a planned *ten* reports. The lack of a full national inquiry in Canada might be the biggest public policy omission of the last decade.

I’m excited by the arrival of Waymo exactly because they obey the law and drive more cautiously than the average person here. Let them seethe at Waymos driving the speed limit and stopping at stop signs. I’m here for it.
New from me at TVO, with some thoughts about Waymo's announced arrival in Toronto www.tvo.org/article/anal...
