question to younger people in tech: how do you get hired (the initial step, to a hiring manager) these days? my understanding is job applications don’t work. What does?

asking friends of the place you want to work to put you in a signal group chat with people at the company you want to work at

unfortunately requires you to know those initial people still but it’s at least a much better initial door than trying to get an application viewed at all
