Partial counterpoint: new hardware is always unobtainable for a large number of children around the world, due to price. What do they play!? Everything they possibly can on every used console, simple mobile device, anything. Not great for new huge games, but you could sooner eradicate cockroaches.

If video game hardware becomes unobtainable for current children, there is no chance of this generation imprinting on it like the last two generations of children have. They will not grow into the adults we have now; the ones spending money on games. Games will end as we know them.

did this guy not grow up playing flash games on a mid laptop? I spend pennies on old mobile devices to play niche games on them. I played hours of NES on a gifted toy console that costs like a bag of chips...

In my experience, many people in games have no idea that there are less "obviously marketed" paths to playing games as a kid, or consider them not real games, or a "shadow market" or some such. Idk about him but this is what comes of suggesting that a business crash has devastating cultural effects
