you say riot are "unrealistic" with their 2XKO expectations but if i got a million people a day playing league of legends i would also assume well they'll probably play anything

League succeeded by being the friendlier, more casual alternative to Dota, which set them apart from the competition. So, naturally, with 2XKO they set out to make a game aimed at hardcore enthusiasts of the genre, ensuring that they only find a tiny audience.

one that appeared hardcore- I think the conception is the more important part than the actual experience. I'd actually argue dota is and has been easier to get into for over a decade because players (and the devs!) aren't insisting on a meta. frog just threw shit out sometimes without judgement

League Diehards are a special kind of damaged that would guarantee that this would never work out well in their favor. their 2XKO audience will be an entirely different crowd with a tiny overlap

League succeeded because dota was really popular and now there was a casual version for anime gooners. 2XKO failed because SF6 is really popular so they made.... casual Marvel vs Capcom for anime gooners. Nobody wanted to play MvC.

I loved everyone used it to push their agenda on game design only for the guy to confirm Oh yeah, it just had to be the most popular fighting game in history

League might feel like an easy mark these days, but I think lighting striking your bat and hitting a home run on your very first ever swing DOES something freaky to your company culture. Blizzard did port/scut work and "paid their dues" so to speak, and WoW STILL rewrote them on an atomic level.

If a runaway success can transform one of the most grounded developers that much, I can only imagine how Riot must be internally haunted by the reality that no amount of time/money/xp can manufacture true virality. I wonder if Epic & Roblox also think they could "summon the lightning" at will again
