1/5 This is something I said on a Discord server, but that I wanna put somewhere more visible. We've been subjected to barrages of bad news after bad news after bad news, and this isnt even something recent. We've been on a constant barrage of horrible news with barely anything positive since 2020.

I don't disagree with your post, and I'm not going to tell you to change anything you're doing, but that's what they want you to do, they want everyone to look away and stop fighting back.

The only newsfeed I've followed in the past 7 years or so is Daily Kos' Good News Roundup. Good things are happening every day, but it's not profitable to tell us about them.

2020? Nah, you misspelled 2016. When all the best celebrities started dying and the fucking zoo shot Harambe. The universe has been fucked since then.

Iโ€™m sorry โค๏ธ Iโ€™ve been trying to work with a disability I was unconscious of for most of it. I had just miracled my way into a new career making medicine last June. Now Iโ€™m back here. Looking for work again, safety nets being shredded outside my state. Iโ€™m trapped and itโ€™s filling with water

Thanks and agreed! And the same globally, trumpy is not an end but an inflection point for us all. I just donโ€™t know how yet โค๏ธ

I left my abusive ex husband 14 years ago. I went no contact with my family and 80% of my so called friends. I have it the best I ever have. I've been trying to figure out why in spite of all the good in my life, I'm still so depressed. You hit the nail on the head. This. This is why.

Actually, it wasn't nearly as bad while Biden was President. I'm not saying nothing bad happened on his watch, but there were a lot of good things that happened too. I can't recall one single thing good happening since the day that Drumpf took office.

I said this tonight. Itโ€™s now coming so fast and from so many directions you canโ€™t turn fast enough to see! I thought I was managing my depression/anxiety surprisingly well, but today I just sat alone sobbing โ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ž

The news has always been that way. "If it bleeds, it leads." If the serious news isn't bad enough, they'll amp up the crime stories. It is what it is. The New York Times' motto, "All the News that's Fit to Print" tells you what OTHER papers were like. In the days when it was a serious newspaper, the

Christian Science Monitor tried to emphasize the positive. A curious aspect was that if a prominent person died, they'd have a front-page article that you'd swear was an obituary, that NEVER ACTUALLY SAID that the person had died. I didn't even notice that until it was pointed out to me. It was

Agreed. I wholeheartedly agree with everything OP said - except that. Itโ€™s been since that escalator ride down to the mics where he told us all the worst people come from Mexico. Iโ€™m so over this chapter in history.

I absolutely did and Iโ€™m furious that this reign of terror we are living thru has had an unintentional (maybe?) impact on how much news I ingest on a daily basis. As you said, I just canโ€™t take it anymore. It was such a brief relief when Biden was pres, but now? I just canโ€™t watch the news anymore

I think there were several times during the Biden administration that I felt we might get free of this so I wonโ€™t say itโ€™s been all bad. I felt he passed some really great legislation and the economy was improving. Of course trump never left or shut up.

I graduated from college in 1987. Aside from a few respites, like the 8 years of Clinton, 8 years of Obama, and 4 years of Biden, this country has been a shit show. Every time the country would get back on track, the rug would get pulled out from under us again. And now this.

So you missed the whole vaccine to COVID found in record time? Violent crime not nearly as bad as it's overhyped on the news? (Okay, yeah, that's easily missed.) Cats still exist and remain adorable. Universal truth. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ Or there's also dogs, rabbits, racoons, etc., if you're of that persuasion.๐Ÿ˜€

That's why folks STOPPED watching the News, and Even after Rupert Murdock was sewd for their Lies on Air, they're STILL Pushing Misinformationโ€ผ๏ธ MAKE the Choice, do you want Truthโ‰๏ธ, or do you Just want to BELIEVEโ‰๏ธ

The Guardian reports that a third of the US population doesn't know or see, or follow the current political situation. If so it will get worse.

That barrage started back in reagan's term and the beginning of FOX news. The Right has manipulated news for 50 years and more. They really began it to oppose Civil Rights. The National Papers reported the news impartially, so they bought them out.

The epidemic of teen mental health problems comes more from this than from social media. Parents too need to step away or put their children at risk

I disagree with you. We started being a shithole country in 2016 when sex predator Trump was elected by the idiot poor repugs. A short respite during Biden who fought a repug congress, but got the infrastructure bill passed. Some of us spent this time fighting for democracy, not procrastinating.

I had to cut back for my own mental health also. Got off of Meta about 2 years ago to avoid seeing family members posts. I was out protesting at least weekly until around August. In November I cut my cable and felt my tension drop dramatically. Now I volunteer for votefwd.org help desk

votefwd.orgVote ForwardVote Forward volunteers send heartfelt handwritten letters to unregistered and low-propensity voters encouraging them to participate in our democracy. The letters have been shown to significantly boos...

This may sound silly but the followup series to the animated movie How to train your Dragon- called Riders of Berk and Race to the Edge- are the funniest, most uplifting series ever. Not particularly well animated but SO well written. Depended on them to sustain me through this, highly recommend.

Not silly at all! Anything that lifts your heart and puts a smile on your face is something to be grateful for these days. What works for me is Japanese entertainmentโ€”j-pop groups like Arashi and Snow Man, j-dramas like Hana-Kimi and Trillion Game (Netflix). I'm glad you found your dragons! โ˜บ๏ธ

Made me a super fan and forced my adult child to watch one; she said, "okay. That DID bring a tear to my eye". So this former news junkie and Obama campaign worker uses a kids show about adventure, friendship and cool dragons to stay sane.

Not blaming Biden for all this, but massive inflation and supply chain issues, Roe v Wade overturned, Taliban took over Afghanistan, China cracking down on Hong Kong, Russia invaded Ukraine, AI shit started, genocide in Gaza, and Trump returns because we took too long to prosecute his crimes

Not to mention California being constantly on fire, increasing droughts, the rise of far right parties globally, Elon Musk buys Twitter and turns it into a propaganda platform, and all the other shit that I've successfully managed to forget

Again, this isn't to blame Biden for most of this (although him not stepping aside until the last minute despite very real issues with his age, and his weak handling of Trump's crimes are a big part of the reason we got a second Trump term), but... The Biden era was way less bad, but it wasn't good

Well we kicked our right wing out the door. California fires were planned ...by right wing. Increased droughts is always going to happen due to climate change. Twitter is a smegma box. Just don't use it. I'm old. All a speed bump which we can fix

Inflation came down under Biden... Biden also invigorated new trade deals. Taliban took over Afghanistan due to Trump's "deal". China cracked down on Hong Kong in Trump's first term. Genocide in Gaza happened to get Trump elected. Trump judges stalled his prosecution. R V W was Trump's era.

How about you chill the fuck out and quit acting like someoneโ€™s sincere post about their health is all about your political beliefs? Also maybe stop expecting detailed and nuanced political commentary from someone who is posting about why they donโ€™t engage with politics now? Be realistic and kind

This post escaped my usual audience xD Hey, before following me, remember: I'm just a comic artist that often posts fetish stuff and NSFW. If thats not your cup of tea, it isnt too late to go back! Also I'm off to bed, so I'm muting this thread. Thanks for reading tho. Have a nice evening you all.

2/5 6 years. 6 whole fucking years of almost only bad news with no respite. This is why at some point I stopped watching news, reading news, avoiding news unless something was so big that it came to me naturally. Otherwise I think my mental health would be irreparably destroyed by now.

3/5 And in the same vein, we've been in survival mode, often "fight or flight mode" for as long or even longer. This isnt sustainable but it looks like we'll have to brace to continue with this for a long more time. This is part of why I've been trying to avoid engaging with some topics...

I get it. Been alternating between seething anger/exhausted depression. I'm old. on BP meds. I take my BP at home every morning. Doc recently upped the dosage & that worked for a bit. Then Trump bombed Caracas & it spiked. It spiked again yesterday after the woman was murdered by ICE thugs.

4/5 ... and why I've been putting an active focus on things that I like. Webcomics? Space? Music? Things that make me happy and bring me life. What i mean with all this is, we're all exhausted and i will not fault anyone for just refusing to engage with bad news anymore.

I had to move to a whole other state once based on the continuous cortisol dump that was causing me to grind my teeth every morning the minute I woke up. Americans will have PTSD from this era, at the very least. Escaping to cat videos and happy hobbies between protest marches is necessary.

5/5 I've been told that by refusing to engage I'm giving that space to the bad actors to take it over, and I can see the point, but come on. We all have a threshold on what we're able to endure, and if you're reaching your limit, its okay to take a step aside and get out of what's bringing you down.
