EXACTLY!! It is the problem of individualistic countries. There is no collectivist thinking, without sniveling about the unfortunate freeloading off U.S. When the term Democratic Socialism comes up, there is panic it’s a communist catchphrase. Yet watch “Robber Barons” show us how milking gets done!
To be fair, the political positions those countries consider leftist are also kind of common sense, insofar as "We should listen to the experts who actually study the subject" is common sense. I don't know of a leftist political position that doesn't have objectively better outcomes for most people.
I associate the term Leftist with refusing to vote for Democrats and helping Trump. In Hungary they formed a broad coalition to defeat Orban but that could never happen here as the “leftist” would say “Peter Magyar is no better than Orban for x, y, z purity test”. I think Europeans are just smarter.
Indeed, decades of unaccountability have resulted in full blown fascism. And when Democrats enabled a genocide we should have all known, fascism had arrived. There was no need to wait for the 2nd coming of Orange Jesus. But then, unaccountability has been the rule since the inception of the country.
A major part of the problem is you have two right wing political parties. The Dems would be a right wing party in any other western country. They have a small "progressive" wing that gets a lot of press, but when push comes to shove, all the Aipac owned politicians vote together regardless sof party
