There's no "controversy" over The Witcher 4, it's just gotten picked up in what is now a cottage industry of YouTube-based outrage content farming by people who have zero actual investment in or understanding of the things they cover multiple times a day, every day

If they’re complaining about Ciri, an individual who in the lore (books and games) has the elder blood which makes her potentially one of the strongest characters in that universe being a strong female protagonist, than they have rocks for brains. Ciri has been badass since 1992. This isn’t recent.

Just to reiterate, in the books, Ciri escaped capture from a clan of dimension-hopping elves by herself and then jumped to a reality where she met the knights of King Arthur’s court and then casually met the Lady of the Lake. But sure, she’s not protagonist material. Ok then outrage farmers.

I've seen the argument shopped around that it's "impossible" for her to become a witcher because she can't undergo the trial of the grasses which really seems to miss the concept of what a witcher is, why the trials exist, and what's possible if you can travel across dimensions

This is one of those “half truth” type deals. She’s definitely been trained in martial combat by Witchers, but IMO even if she underwent the trial it probably wouldn’t change her very much. Her body is already coursing with power. If anything it would probably just her a nasty hangover.

This isn’t even factoring in the magic she learned from Yen which puts all of the Witcher’s little bag of party magician tricks to shame. Oh you can make a tiny gust of wind? Cool I’m gonna teleport at light speed behind you and stab your throat. Good luck getting up from that asshole.

The trial is why they live so long, can see in the dark, have increased stamina, and allows their body to process the elixirs. Also, I'm super excited for a game with Ciri as the MC. CDPR is giving the story a much better end than the books did.
