People seem a little bit overly skeptical about the new technology, why might that be (Another former Anthropic engineer posts something floridly insane) Ah

We believe we are actively creating an extinction event for humanity. We will not be asking your county planning board for zoning variances because fuck you. Why are you being so hostile

I do not believe that these guys are about to summon a world-ending superconsciousness from Nvidia graphics cards. But they either believe they can or want me to believe they believe they can. So I think "fuck them" is the only rational response

They all want to be the Oppenheimer of Death Star Ouija boards and that is not something you should want to be, even though it's a very silly fantasy

let's also remember that 5 years ago they were all whining "but intelligence isn't even a real THING!" when these drug-addled dropouts scored lower on aptitude tests showing that we women and people of color were better college candidates now "intelligence" is a thing again 'cause they can buy it

If it did manage to hack a nuclear system and even one city got destroyed as a result, every country would race to shut the whole shebang down. Equally concerning is the idea that a country might do this as a false flag, claim they were hacked to destroy someone else's city but evade all-out war.

It's possible that utilizing AI tools can make you a more productive worker. Summoning a super-consciousness from a box of nVidia cards is a fun distraction from fixing your broken website, which all these AI toolbags (AI users) probably should be doing.

It's really funny how OpenAI talks like they're running project Manhattan while apparently having no concept of things like "maybe don't connect your testing environment to the Internet" or "what do you mean we are supposed to keep an eye on our chatbots"

My take is it's half self-aggrandizement and magical thinking, and half laying the groundwork for deniability when someone uses Claude to steal every credit card in America. "We tried to warn you it was too powerful! If only we had more public resources we could have stopped it."
