I think that Anthropic ex-employee thread is both a marketing ploy and a sliver of true fears. With as much anti-AI sentiment there is online, I feel like a last ditch effort is to try and get everyone onboard with that philosophical fear they’ve been driven by. Also, with quantum computing…

I think Chuck Wendig nailed it with this being: A - bullshit and they know it. or B - bullshit and they don't know it. My question is how would it do so? Nukes aren't on networks with remote launch. Most cars lack remote controls. Also, as if China's AI would allow American AI to do so.

It's really stupid. Basically just some weirdo atheists inventing their own devil so they can justify feeling bad about stuff. And this new shit is either just a lie or a dumber version of it

I'm only concerned about the people operating the LLMs. Unless they're fully on board with whatever happens, we can just turn off the power supply. We should do that now, the carbon footprint is obscene, but as far as imminent civilizational collapse goes, later will suffice.

…getting closer and closer. There is a real danger with a computing device that is being pushed to think on it’s own and can also break the Navier Stokes. The scary part of AI is not the plagiaristic LLM, but the high level computing they “surprisingly” aren’t pushing as hard to the public.

Something something if the tool was as good as they said it was they would keep it for themselves. There is a segment of AI that they’re playing with alone while throwing us the slop machine.

This is basically where I've landed. I do think AGI is gonna exist sooner than later (but is still years off) but also, if a company developed AGI, they sure as shit wouldn't tell you or let you use it, and governments the world over are gonna be tearing into that company. Very real security risk.

I think they're throwing us the slop machines because they all need to make a billion dollars a month to stay afloat and that's the only part of AI that fifty million end-users *might* pay 20 bucks for.

If it helps we are not even in the same ballpark as general quantum computing. Like, right now quantum computers basically do one thing at a time and they have to have been programmed to do that one thing. It's like punch cards, but if each card only gave one answer.
