It's crazy how hard it is to sleep on a plane but on a train I sleep better than in my own bed

Interesting that we invented the perfect transport and the perfect sleep aid and they're the same contraption and yet the US will not build more of them

I wonder why it's a difficult story for America to adopt trains more broadly. For such a large land with history linked to mining and riding across the plains, trains should have become a cultural cornerstone.

The US uses trains a lot, but primarily for freight. For some reason, they nationalised passenger services and privatised the rails themselves around the same time.

When I was 19 me and some friends got North American rail passes and cruised the whole USA sleeping on many overnight trains in our seats. It was an incredible way to see the country!
