I mean, it's honestly hard to do Ace Combat wrong. Assault Horizon proved how to do such, but otherwise every game is essentially one-upping the last.

I want to get into these games, but licencing from Lockheed Martin and others and pushing lootboxes and monetization like that in a full price title just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I'll pick it up from a secondhand store down the road, but it just feels kind of gross.

Before. The release order of the modern games is 4-5-0-6-7, and 4 & 6 are closer to standalone than 5-0-7 That said, 7 is still a really strong game completely on its own, 0 just gives more context to certain elements.

Hard to say, depends on financial situation, etc. BUT it's got 30 full missions, took me 19 hours to beat one playthrough, very replayable and has a big multiplayer mode I haven't tried at all yet. So, certainly a lot for your money.

Harder to answer simply because there are a LOT of big moments, but there are lots of setpiece fights and the music is going fucking crazy in all of them

As a long-standing fan of Ace Combat 5 ever since it first came out over 20 years ago... Hard agree. Didn't think it was possible since that bar to clear was so high (it remained in my personal Top 3 Games of All Time list), but somehow they did it. Miracles do indeed exist.

AC7 was a lot of people’s entry point. It’s compatible with current hardware and is eternally on sale. You can complete it before 8 drops and decide if it’s your cuppa.
