If Canada gives up the ability to regulate digital platforms in the name of regulatory "alignment" with the United States, in exchange for lowering tariffs on steel, aluminum and automobiles, it's difficult to overstate how much of a catastrophic defeat that would be for us.

Our electronic BS would really pollute your internet- don’t let them do this- Steven Bannon said flood the line with shit and that never stopped. This is why Americans are at each others throats- tech bros are trying to Myanmar us

Regulate digital platforms: meaning government control over what can be said and prohibit anonymous posting. Just like in the trucker strike, identify who supported their views and seize their bank accounts.

It also allows warrants to be expanded to “similar items” after a judge signs off on the original terms. So if the warrant required the company to give your name it could expand to require your address, phone number, billing account, banking info, usage, and posts with out a judge saying yes.

Better tell that to the government because Bill C-22 does. It pushes for requirements for metadata retention, expands information sharing with foreign governments, establishes a mechanism that allows Canada’s Ministry of Public Safety to demand that companies create backdoors, breaking encryption

It's not just big tech. It's also big oil.

Thread here connecting Carney directly with an oil and gas CEO - there are only three links needed to do it, too. Build Canada is m/billionaire funded and Carney is totally taking their policy suggestions and putting them into action. Including trying to raid our pensions for Canadian ventures.

I think we should wait until the ink is dried before screaming that the sky is falling. I also think it's important to recognize that our economy is far more dependent on steel, aluminum, and automobiles than regulating digital platforms. These are real people with real families.

There is no "deal" to be made with a country you can't trust a millimeter. That country is the USA they are not our friend and they are not an actual ally. They are a virus in tbe world that we don't have a vaccine for. Elbows up, don't ever buy American!

Literally anything they agree to will be revoked the minute they feel like it, so we should offer them nothing that has any value to us. They will take it and give nothing in return.

I might be biased (just look at my handle haha), but if one is to pursue "regulatory alignment" with anyone in the first place, there might be a gold star-sprangled blue banner to the east that might be worth considering instead.

If you were to only look at Canada's priorities for trade negotiations with the United States, you wouldn't conclude that the internet is a big and important part of the economy, politics, and society writ large.

That’s a terrible idea, look at how American Billionaires use social media as a tool try and manipulate the masses. Not to mention how they allow foreign governments to push narratives through bot networks. Meta is currently losing lawsuits because they knowing allowed kids to come to harm
