"Killing Hasan in full public view would make him a martyr on a bigger scale than any suicide attack ever could: there would be footage of the US state killing him, available for use by any recruiter, at any time. To call it a gift to the USA’s enemies would be the understatement of the century."

Sad to say, it would be inevitable that there would be multiple livestreamed "executions" of US citizens around the world in the weeks after.

They're too dumb to realise this. This will be shown in every recruitment drive, and as it has the endorsement of the President who was democratically elected, (tongue in cheek for that last statement), every American will be a legitimate target.

Given the fact that he's in a wheelchair wouldn't be a good look either. What are they going to do - leave him in it or haul him out and bind him to hang limply from some form of support? What really shows it up as a performative act is that the shootings were nearly 20 years ago.

Yes, it would be a massive self-own by the US, difficult to see that they will go through with the livestream or even release footage. Hasan is already getting massive amounts of publicity. But they might actually do it anyway because they don't want to lose face.
