Harry Kane's become the best player in the world since he joined Bayern Munich. Shame he stayed with a second-rate team like Spurs for so long, rather than moving to a top club earlier in his career and fulfilling his potential sooner.

Easy for the media establishment to criticise cuts without making practical suggestions for getting the BBC's finances in order that don't involve big and unwelcome increases to the licence fee.

Josiah Mortimer@josiahmortimer.bsky.social

The cuts being made at the BBC are unforgivable. They are putting it into a death spiral. The weaker it gets, the less people will want to support it. And yes, this is an issue for the Government, which likes to pretend it's not their problem. It is.

It would certainly suit Trump's agenda to have a pro-Russian head of NATO. This is ludicrous - and dangerous.

Back in the US after a long break in the UK, I am suffering from total sticker shock after visiting a couple of DC supermarkets. I have never seen prices like it. Inflation numbers here are going to soar & are not yet telling the full story. The difference between late May & today is staggering.

I'm no fan of Simon Heffer, but his no-star Telegraph review of Liz Truss's new book is laugh-aloud funny.

Jenrick is surely a prime candidate for the most repulsive of the Tories / ex-Tories.

Ian Charles@iancharles007.bsky.social

@lbc.co.uk It is hilarious to see Jenrick realise his career is over.

Thought Toy Story 5 was magnificent when I saw it the cinema earlier in the year. If anything, on the second time of watching just now, it's even better. Very clever and witty, but deeply profound and moving.

A month ago, Sir Jim Ratcliffe lectured the Prime Minister, telling him he should run Britain in the same way he runs Manchester United

When Man Utd sack Carrick this evening, it'll be as much for his petulance in leaving Bruno Fernandes unused on the bench all afternoon as for their latest awful result.

Very encouraging. Sensible politics + good communication + Farage increasingly being exposed + Polanski crashing and burning.

The first time I came to Bletchley Park many years ago, it was pretty much falling down. Back here today for the first time in a long while. Congratulations to all the volunteers and sponsors, and to the National Lottery, for the restoration work that's taken place. A remarkable and important place.

Station tannoy says if I see anything unusual to see it etc. Darlings, its ComicCon and the Lizzie line is packed with brightly coloured superheroes, monsters and elves. The only unusual thing to see l are the weirdos in boring clothes.

Just had a very posh Tom Kerridge M&S curry for dinner. Tasted exactly like a box of Vesta Curry in the late 1970s. Loved it!

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

nytimes.comHow Trump Gave the Worst Polluters a Free Pass (Gift Article)The president temporarily waived clean-air rules for industrial facilities that spew cancer-causing gases. Then his appointees worked to gut the regulations altogether.

A Pythagorean date today. How fascinating. And rather sobering that it's the last in my lifetime.

The Times attacks Labour for restricting VAT relief for building works on churches. They illustrate it with a church in Sunningdale, where average household income is £79k, 63% higher than the UK average. And they don't mention that the CofE centrally have cash and investments of over £10bn.

People haven’t clocked how big the shopping list the Conservatives have built up in just two years in opposition - adding up to over £30bn a year

Outstanding article by Torsten Bell, laying waste to any claims Badenoch may make that the Tories are economically competent or responsible.

Torsten Bell@torstenbell.bsky.social

What is Kemi Badenoch’s new big idea? Exactly the same as the Conservatives’ old big idea: unfunded tax cuts. It’s the lack of imagination as much as the fiscal incontinence that stands out torstenbell.substack.com/p/kemis-big-...

I know! Me! 1. The Tories left the economy in dire straits. 2. The Tories left public services in dire straits. 3. The Tories left us with hugely increased levels of national debt. I'm guessing that's not what Sunak says in the article. The Tories are absolutely shameless.

Forgotten Island is a remarkable film - very creative, absolutely weird at times, very intense and very touching. Went because our seven-year-old daughter wanted to see it, and possibly liked it even more than she did.

The Soviet flag is an interesting and somewhat jarring addition to #totp given Russia's current behaviour.

I only Googled the lyrics to find out who this is by. AI seems to have read far more into it... #TOTP

The original of Rent is brilliant: one of my PSB favourites. But I heard this version a few weeks back, and it elevates the song to another level entirely. Absolutely magnificent. #totp

Jon@jonw67.bsky.social

Had to find this incredible version of "Rent", with Jake Shears and Neil Tennant, having seen it on the BBC Pet Shop Boys special a couple of weeks ago. It really is absolutely stunning.

I always thought Bauhaus were so cool. Until I just learned here that they're from Northampton! #totp

I so love that the #totp contingent take over the world on a Friday evening! What must the Americans here think?!
