To call this one a gut punch is the understatement of a century. This is the studio that put out most of the favourite games of childhood. And several of my adulthood.

EA is shutting down BioWare and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending 😔

Sadly not surprising as EA have always behaved in this way. Have to wonder what point there is to the Saudi investment in EA if they aren't willing to take a risk on something as likely to be a commercial success as ME.

Feeling pretty sad about it. I think there'll never be a game which will hit me quite as much as Dragon Age Origins, which is partly nostalgia, but partly also the very specific mix which went into the game.

Managed to miss a "my" out there but hopefully you get the point. The games industry is truly horrible at the moment. Hope the talented people at Bioware find excellent new professional homes, and soon.

Bioware has been a shell of itself for over a decade but this is still so fucking bitter. The industry is in such a bleak place right now.

I disagree. Sure, many traditional AAA studios are failing. But there are a lot promising smaller studios around. With a lot of interesting projects. Also BioWare's people won't disappear. This can be chance for something new.

I bought ME2 cos reviewers were saying it shows video games can be mature, then I started playing it and the camera is always at ass level for the woman in skin tight clothes

Gutting but honestly I think the new Mass Effect was endlessly delayed because they don't have a story, and when it finally came out it would have been another Andromeda-style 7/10-but-derivitive experience. I'm cautiously hopeful about Exodus though

Ah man I remember the original Baldur's Gate, wandering around the map just listening to birds singing and feeling total immersion in their world....founded by Alberta doctors working part time!
