Those of you standing in long lines for municipal elections in Alberta today: 1) stay in line; your voice matters 2) the long lines are a direct consequence of the conspiracy-driven policy changes brought forward by the UCP government (and not your beleaguered election workers); be kind

I absolutely am not defending the UCP, but my perception was the slowdown was in finding people and adding/editing people on the laptop, not the paper voting process. I took a long time to find as I had moved within from a different ward since the last election. Was the laptop lookup a UCP mandate?

Paper voter list, like every other muni election I've voted in. They check your id against the list, cross you off, give you a ballot, off you go. If you're not on the list, they check your address to ensure this is your polling station, you sign an attestation, you vote. Like 5 mins tops to vote.

I am very frustrated by this province. I work shift work, and worked during advance polls. Two other polling stations are being deferred to ours. I vote very election. This is beyond long lines and many people are leaving. We won’t but this is an unnecessary barrier.

I know nothing of Canadian politics but felt very uplifted seeing public workers picketing on strike on our trip to BC last week. (Server in one restaurant was trying to make extra change while shut out. Also planning to shun US Disneyland.)
