Ontario MRI, cancer surgery, and cataract wait times all rose from 2017–2025, despite $280M spent licensing private health clinics, a new Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives study found.

A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says Ontario's outsourcing of some medical treatments to private clinics has not reduced wait times. For example, MRI waits rose from 35 days in 2017 to 47 days in 2025. The provincial health minister's office calls the report "misguided."

Dual practice could worsen wait times and leave patients in vulnerable positions, feeling pressured to pay out of pocket to receive care. The CMA supports the intervention of #Bill11, and calls for a federal review of its implications on patients and providers.
