“I am not afraid to die. I’m only nervous about the process.” Just an unbelievable failure of governing and the legal system and basic decency.

There is no way to implement the death penalty that doesn’t result in cruel and inhuman punishment. Beyond this, there is no human court so infallible that, even if a “better” version could be implemented, they would never err in condemning a person to death. It is sheer hubris to claim otherwise.

Clint Eastwood has directed some unexpected masterpieces in his time. Please see “True Crime” where a falsely convicted man on death row is narrowly saved by Clint’s alcoholic reporter. I love this film. Watch it every year or so.

“The Tennessean astutely reported, there is a real ‘lack of transparency over how the state is securing’ the pentobarbital it will use, and therefore questions about whether it could be of shoddy quality. This should be especially alarming….” www.memphisflyer.com/pentobarbita...

This has brought up so many memories. There were always anti death penalty activists on Riverside Drive by the men’s prison and it always became very tense when there was any chance of an execution happening. I’m horrified that our government does this. It’s torture.

I studied correctional healthcare when I was getting my MSN Nurse Practitioner degree at Vanderbilt and spent a short time at the Women’s Prison. I remember having a short interaction through the cell door with her. It must have been close to when she was convicted.

Especially galling since she and her lawyers raised specific concerns about how her health conditions would complicate the choice of lethal injection. She was worried she would suffer, she asked the judge to hang her instead, the judge rejected her request — and she was right.

tortured and beat Slemmer for over 30 minutes. During the attack, a pentagram was carved into Slemmer's chest, and Pike eventually bludgeoned her to death, keeping a piece of Slemmer's skull as a souvenir How did the victim feel as she was being killed

Made me re-evaluate the death penalty; the victims must be given justice. Is it fair to kill a 19 yo & you get to live your life? How scared and alone was that victim? of course a serious overhaul is needed. I won’t engage in a serious convo until the prison system actually will engage in reform
