This lines up with a lot of my thoughts on it. I also think the speed with which Roblox developers jack concepts from each other to further optimize their games for monetization is fascinating and shouldn't be in something that gets pushed to kids. It's like the worst version of best practices.

"This is a kids' game, and it's layering multiple currencies atop one another to obfuscate the cost of things, as well as using pop-ups, timer bars, and "buy" buttons to offer temporary boosts and, generally speaking, remove the game's in-built friction."

the difference is that those age verification legistlations exist to collect data. Leglistations against roblox would *remove* the shit from it instead of adding shit to society like those age verification legistlations do.

I remember the first time I tried it out was eons ago on a shitty compaq prebuilt, so i always associated it with being a laggy piece of shit lmao

my only experience with roblox is being in a discord server (for a mvc game) that is a higher rank than the official discord for some thanos simulator roblox game. them kids ain't reading. not a word. they keep showing up begging for admins to unlock stuff for them for free, posting their logins

You should look at big YouTubers like Folsyn, they all release videos at the same time that have almost exactly the same title and premise on the same games, they do nothing but promote P2W and lootboxes, and the comments of their videos are flooded with spam bots, often porn bots.

These YouTubers are then making money from those games. It is literally an organized racket that targets children to convince them there number go up shovel ware games are popular and they need to play / spend money on them. Very few people seem to have noticed this though.

The more I hear about how worse Roblox gets, the more sadder I get for the game. 2007 Roblox was my introduction to the internet and that was back when it was still new, simple and fun to play. Now it's just such a mess and it hurts to see what the game I grew up on, has now become.

I know it's relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, but the fact that we have allowed Roblox to continue operating is a moral failing of us as a society. There's no way a decent human being can look at what they're doing and how they're predating on children and think it's in any way ok.

My kids play Roblox but only for very limited times, and only certain games. I’ve also taught them from the start that I’m not buying robux, and when I do they’re not allowed to spend it on consumables. Part of the responsibility is definitely on the platform, but the other part is on parents.

I mean that's all ignoring that it's a child labor factory. Kids make roblox game, kid gets paid in robux, robux other kids parents paid cash for. It's gross, I refuse to buy Robux.
