Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

But it would be against the rules of capitalism to charge AI companies directly for the extra costs caused by AI? Please explain to us simple peasants how it works. We don't get it. Or here's another thought - use the excess tax money donated by blue states to the federal government to pay for it.

Or we could try being not stupid about data centers and grid upgrades, by using available technology to make both computing demand and electricity more flexible. Make better use of the grid we already have, while expanding the grid to meet decarbonization goals. www.volts.wtf/p/doing-data...

volts.wtfDoing data centers the not-dumb wayJigar Shah joins me to break down why powering new data centers with behind-the-meter natural gas plants is an engineering and economic disaster.

Hey guys, I'm building a power plant in my backyard so that I can have more flashy lights on my house. I need you guys to pay for the construction for the plant and the power usage for it because I am an entitled prick who gets what he wants. Thank you.

I love it when "economies of scale" turns into "the tragedy of the commons (feat: midlife kleptocracy)" and the people whose job it is to administrate this stuff away shrug and tell you, "you can't stop this kind of thing from happening anyway I'm taking more of your money."

While the basis of the assumption is probably true, they will say anything to jack up rates. Historical facts. This is from Feb 12 2026. Did they not know 'capital expenditures' would not need to be inclusive of AI / data centers a mere 5 months ago? #Cmon

...or perhaps the Federal government could be making loans through some sort of, I dunno, program office, to fund the development and installation of new capacity and distribution systems. I know, it's wild, but no bad ideas in a brainstorm right?

You want me to pay more cause you got customers that you probably encouraged via the Chamber to come to your service area knowing they would use a lot of what you sell. But I need to pay? Fuck you.

So make us pay more for electricity to bring more AI on line to take our jobs so we have less. What these tech bros don’t get is that we do get what’s going on, we don’t like it and there will be a point where we no longer, passively, put up with it.

It’s insane to me that trillions will flow into AI in the coming years yet it’s the consumer that will get stomped with utility bill increases while data centers pay like 20% of the rates households pay.
