Been thinking about what digital ownership could look like on atproto: NOT NFTs/speculation, but real transferable digital objects. An album, artwork, book, etc. with its own DID, provenance, rights, lending, gifting & resale. Access is a service; ownership is an object. PDS to PDS transfer.

I’m super into this! Especially keen on hearing any takes you have on the adversarial parts: book publisher wants to publish an edit to your book; music publisher abandons atproto ownership project; previous owner is sneaky and tries to claw back ownership after receiving g payment.

there was a ton of motion around the concept of non-speculative nfts in web3 a few years back, you may not want the stank of BAYC on it but ultimately this is a path we've trodden before if ya feel me

Totally. I feel ya, fully aware it’s a well-trodden path haha - my thinking *is* basically a non-speculative nft but would love to avoid the term, and stank, of ‘NFT’. Most certainly the stank of BAYC 🤮.

I think leaning into real design affordandes rather than crypto speak is the way. I think the idea of ‘give this album to your friend’ rather than speculate the value of this shit monkey sketch has legs, as long as we distance ourselves enough from crypto of yore
