man every day some pundit's on here with the latest random thing they think is the problem in the games industry, we're not original enough, not well-read enough, chasing the wrong trends, whatever. pisses me off. it's that there is no fucking money. whatever shit you think you are seeing is THAT

the industry is absolutely crawling with incredible people trying to make really thoughtful things with incredible track records and 10 years ago they could have got funded and today they absolutely cannot. no fucking chance. for any amount of money. ANY AT ALL

"make new IPs instead of sequels and remakes" with what money you dickhead. "take inspiration from outside of games" we are dickhead, there's no fucking money. "why does nobody even try to make x thing anymore" WHAT MONEY

lotta brass neck on any purported games journalist distracting from the issue with this fanfic shit by the way. what would you fucking know anyway. open your eyes and get a goddamned grip

I also don't see any journalists acknowledge how so much of our current funding crisis is because of big money backing hucksters with impressive companies on their resume, who pitched "the next <last thing to make a ton of money>" then failing to deliver anything.

I've never liked anyone saying that games journalists are in the game industry or that the game industry includes the journalists. Something I have definitely heard said or implied many times. (I suppose mostly or entirely by game journalists.)

this is roughly happening with most industries but it's happening to games the most and in an extremely obvious way because the entire industry is extremely reported on and has laid more than half of itself off.

it's also important to remember that a lot of the big indies coming out of europe are funded with grants from the government but most governments don't view games or the arts as something worth funding.
