Oh so that's what happened. Fair enough. Maybe I ought to consider subscribing at this point, even if it's temporary (depending on how I like the search)

When Auto-Detect Language is selected, Kagi Translate doesn’t say which langage was detected… Is there a way to have this information? Maybe I missed something… Thanks!

That's a bug! Sometimes it works on the second try but it's something we are improving. Thanks for reporting it.
